Canned Cocktail Review: Cocktail Squad - Part 2

Posted by Jaime Fowler on

RTD cocktail review of Cocktail Squad by The Pursuit of Cocktails

After falling head over heals for the whiskey smash from Cocktail Squad last week I've been eagerly awaiting trying two more of their ready-to-drink cocktails this week. If you missed my review last week you can catch up here. Spoiler alert: it was one of only a handful of 5-star reviews I've handed out.

Which means the bar is pretty high for this week. I'm expecting great things from the Cocktail Squad greyhound and whiskey sour so let's just dig in and see how they measured up.

Cocktail Squad Greyhound:

Review of Cocktail Squad's canned cocktail Greyhound

Overall score:

4 out of 5
Sweetness:
One shaker = not sweet at all // Five shakers = your teeth may curl
2 out of 5
Booziness: 10% ABV
One shaker = does this have booze? Five shakers = Four Lokos 4 out of 5 cocktail shakers

I do have a love-hate relationship with grapefruit but I generally love greyhounds so I was super eager to try Cocktail Squad's greyhound. Especially coming off the high of their bourbon smash.

Good news! This one totally rocks too!

The Cocktail Squad greyhound has some carbonation and I love that addition that is lacking in a traditional greyhound. The grapefruit flavor is tart but not so tart you get the pucker face. The can also mentions a pinch of salt which I did pick up on that. I think that little something extra is what makes this a really well-rounded cocktail. I love it!

And for all of you that ask me about gluten-free cocktails, add this one to your list. Four of the six Cocktail Squad cocktails are gluten-free. It is only the whiskey cocktails that are not. I think once you try their gluten-free canned cocktails you'll want to write them thank you letters for making such delicious gluten-free cocktails.

You know I'm a sucker for a whiskey drink and I'm pretty sure up until this point I haven't run across a canned cocktail version of a whiskey sour. Whiskey sours used to be one of my go-to cocktails at a bar when I was younger (aka naive) because a) bartenders knew what it was and b) I thought it was hard to mess up. Then I had a *real* whiskey sour at a underground bar in Portland and I've never ordered one from a dive bar again now that I know what it is actually supposed to taste like. Hint: it shouldn't taste like straight up sour mix. Who knew?!?!

Anyway, this is just a long way of telling you that the Cocktail Squad whiskey sour is on point with the best I've ever had. It absolutely does NOT taste like sour mix. It does NOT have that fake sweet flavor. What it does have is a very tart, natural tasting citrus sour in just the right proportion to the sweetness of the whiskey. Cocktail Squad had nailed it again!

Would I buy these again?

I sure will! I can't wait to share this line with my girls this summer once we have all this social distancing behind us.

Have you tried any of the Cocktail Squad canned cocktails? What did you think? I'd love to hear from you in the comments section. The more opinions the better! Let's "drink together" and share our cocktail stories.
