Canned cocktail review: Social Hour Pacific Spritz

Social Hour canned cocktail review of Pacific Spritz by The Pursuit of Cocktials

Hi cocktail lovers! This week I'm trying my first cocktail from a brand I've been eyeing on Instagram for awhile. It is a fairly new brand out of NYC and if I'm being honest, the packaging drew me in like a moth to a flame. The Social Hour branding is perfection in my book. I love the colors. I love the details of the drawings on the can. I love how each of their three cocktails has it's own color way and personality. I love it all! And I'm praying that I'll love the cocktails inside just as much.

First up I'm trying their Pacific Spritz then I'll be back next week with their Whiskey Mule and Gin & Tonic.  So let's just dig into this super pretty can and keep our fingers crossed the insides match the outside.

Here is my official review of Social Hour's Pacific Spritz:

Four cocktail shakers

When I popped the top on this Social Hour Pacific Spritz the very first thing that hit me was a nice grapefruit flavor - which surprised me. I remembered that this was rosé wine + Aperitivo liquor cocktail but I totally missed that it was also fruity. A quick label check reminded me that it has grapefruit and passionfruit flavors as well.

This cocktail was super unexpected to me. I was expecting a mostly rosé flavored drink. And there is no doubt that it is rosé but it is so much more than that. This Pacific Spritz has a much more complex, rich flavor to it - like all the best cocktails do.

It is wine-y but tart yet smooth with lots of fruit flavor, which as I'm typing it sounds like I'm saying it is a sangria. It is most definitely NOT sangria. It might be the Aperitivo (a bitter liquor) that makes this different but this Pacific Spritz is way more cocktail than sangria. This is yet another cocktail that I can't quite put my finger on other than to tell you that I really like it and I think you should try it too. Especially if rosé is your thing already, I think you'll really love the Social Hour Pacific Spritz.

Sweetness

2 out of 5 cocktail shakers
One shaker = not sweet at all  // Five shakers = your teeth may curl

Overall this ready-to-drink rosé cocktail is not sweet. Any sweetness that you might expect from the rosé is actually smoothed out by the tartness of the grapefruit flavor. It leans slightly more tart than sweet but neither one is overpowering.

Booziness

3 out of 5 cocktail shakers

One shaker = does this have booze? Five shakers = Four Lokos

This rosé wine canned cocktail officially rings in at 8% ABV so it has a decent kick to it. It is worth noting that because this is a wine cocktail the kick is a wine buzz rather than a liquor buzz which if you've tried both you'll know what I mean. One isn't better than the other, it's just different.

Would I buy this ready to drink cocktail again?

I do really like the Social Hour Pacific Spritz. It was different than anything else I've had so I automatically like it. Wine cocktails aren't generally my thing but if I'm going to have another, this one would be the top of my list.

I'm really excited to try the two other cocktails from this line next week - their Whiskey Mule and Gin & Tonic. Make sure to come back for that.
