Canned cocktail review:
Hard Frescos Brewing Co Juicy Jamaican

Posted by Jaime Fowler on

Ready to drink cocktail review of Hard Fresco Brewing Co Juicy Jamaican
If you've ever had a Mexican agua frescas then you know they're amazing.

So adding booze has to make it even better right?

I've been excited to try the Hard Frescos Brewing Co frescas since seeing them on the Gram. (It's that packaging - it pulls me in every time.) When I finally spotted them at the grocery store I was excited and only then did I realize that they are a boozy take on the traditional Mexican drink. I lived in Phoenix for awhile and I LOVE agua fresca which only made me more eager to try these. After a lot of deliberation, I picked up the Juicy Jamacian flavor. Then, disaster!

As I was taking photos of these prior to popping one open I saw the dreaded "beer with natural flavor." Not again!! Why are these silly beers making it into the cocktail section. I did a quick Google search and found out it has something to do with adding malt to make it legal in some way. I'm not into that kind of minute technicality - I'm a creative after all! You can read more about that here if you're interested. Anywho, I decided I still wanted to try the hard frescas and I'm the boss around here so we're doing this. ;)

Here is my official review of
Hard Frescos Brewing Co's Juicy Jamacian fresca:

Okay - I'm totally here for this canned cocktail. I was all ready to be disappointed because of the "beer" thing but no! This hard fresca is delightful.

Fresh is the best word to describe this drink. The Hard Frescos Brewing Co site says that they cold-ferment fresh fruit to create these cocktails and you really can tell that it's made from real fruit not fruit flavoring.

I'm kind of stunned that this canned cocktail absolutely tastes like the fresh fruit that agua frescas are all about. The bonus with these is they are not overly sweet like the ones some street vendors sell. Plus, these have booze!

If you're wondering about the "juicy jamaican" hibiscus flavor, I can't put my finger on what it tastes like. It's a little fruity, not really citrusy but a touch... I really don't know how to describe it. You'll have to pick one up for yourself and see. If you can put it into words, please do in our comments section! TIA

Sweetness

One shaker = not sweet at all  // Five shakers = your teeth may curl

This canned cocktail is not sweet. If anything it's a little sour with just a touch of fruity sweetness that keeps the sour from taking over. The overall effect is a very drinkable cocktail. You could easily drink several of these without feeling a sugar overload.

Booziness

One shaker = does this have booze? Five shakers = Four Lokos

This ready to drink cocktail officially rings in at 5.7% ABV, so about the same as a lighter beer. It is super refreshing. It doesn't have an alcohol taste. And you can totally feel that nice relaxing wave come over you. The fuzz! You know that's what I live for and this canned cocktail delivers. Two thumbs up from me.

Would I buy these again?

I will! I'd like to try all of the other flavors as well. They have four main flavors including this one and a few seasonal flavors. I'll be keeping an eye out for those.
