Ready-to-drink cocktail review: Winterhaven Farms Egg Nog

Ready-to-drink cocktail review Winterhaven Farms Eggnog

Tis' the season for egg nog

Soooo, I've never actually had egg nog but I've always been curious about it. I come from a long line of non-drinkers so needless to say there is not a secret family recipe I'll be comparing this pre-made version to - unlike my friendly cashier who talked my ear off about her mom's egg nog recipe when I was checking out. Lucky duck! But a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do so I'm forging on without a "baseline egg nog" to compare to.

A ready to drink egg nog seemed like the perfect way to kick off the holiday season so after some quick googling I picked up this one from Winterhaven Farms at my local Total Wine. Then bravely took my first sip trying not to think about the egg part of egg nog which has always seemed super weird to me and a bit gross.

Queue the confetti because I'm so happy I can now officially say I'm an egg nog fan and this one from Winterhaven Farms is the delicious standard to which all future egg nog will be measured.

Here is my official review of the Winterhaven Farms Egg Nog:

Four cocktail shakers

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this pre-made egg nog - or egg nog in general.

This Winterhaven Farms egg nog has a great flavor with just a hint of booze. With my first sip I could taste the brandy but after that kind of just melted into the other flavors. Overall, this is a lovely, comforting drink and I can see why it is so popular during the long dark nights of the holidays. While I have nothing to compare this pre-made version too I'm going to go ahead and say this is a good egg nog that I will definitely continue to drink after this review is over. (Sometimes I don't so this is super high praise!!!)

Sweetness

Two cocktail shakers
One shaker = not sweet at all  // Five shakers = your teeth may curl

I always imagined that egg nog would be sweet since it's a holiday treat but, this version at least, is not. It is rich and creamy with just the smallest touch of sweetness.

Booziness

One cocktail shaker
One shaker = does this have booze? Five shakers = OG Four Lokos

This pre-made cocktail officially rings in at 29.5 proof so it has just a touch of booze. I would venture to say this egg nog is more of a comforting evening treat rather than an actual cocktail that could give you a buzz.

Would I buy these again?

Yes, I would definitely pick this up again to serve at a holiday party.

  • LOVE LOVE this egg nog all you need is some ice cubes, I can’t wait until Thanksgiving that’s when Total Wine in kennesaw Ga starts selling it for the holidays and it flies off the shelf.

  • Of course it needs refrigeration! This drink is absolutely delicious! Our total wine store is very small and carries the minimal amount..so we have to buy early!

  • I love this drink. Does it need to be refrigerated after opening?
